Derek earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. He built his career in mortgage banking and financial services, spending nearly two decades guiding clients through complex lending decisions before shifting his focus to commercial real estate.

At BBVA Bank, which was acquired by PNC Bank, Derek spent thirteen years as a Mortgage Banking Officer specializing in construction lending, closing loans in the two to three million dollar range for custom home builds. His work in this space earned him recognition as one of the top construction lenders at BBVA, and he became known throughout Houston as part of a team that specialized in serving physicians and attorneys with tailored financing programs.

That specialization built Derek a deep network among high-net-worth professionals, builders, developers, and real estate agents across Houston. He carries that same relationship-driven approach into his work at Oxford, where he draws on years of experience structuring financing for business owners and professionals to help clients think through the real estate decisions ahead of them.

Derek holds a Texas real estate license and closed more than 35 residential transactions before moving into commercial real estate. Most recently, he served as VP Mortgage Loan Officer at Regions Bank, where he exceeded sales targets and built personalized lending solutions for his clients.

Derek develops his commercial real estate practice alongside Trey Martin, drawing on Trey’s experience in the industrial and office sectors as he builds his own client base. His background in construction and specialty lending gives him a grounded understanding of how financing, timelines, and risk shape a business’s real estate decisions, a perspective he brings to every client conversation.
