Several months ago, our church—a relatively new mission church in Houston, located in the... read more Heights—began our search for a property to purchase to establish a more permanent and long-term home for our congregation and its mission. Oxford Partners greatly exceeded all our expectations as our buyers’ broker on a commercial real estate purchase. Stephen Hazen, Sales Director at Oxford Partners, quickly and efficiently took all the information needed to pair us with the ideal broker in the firm for our needs, Douglas Hale (“D.J.”). Without delay, Steve and D.J. sat down with me and discussed our church’s needs, the state of the commercial market, and a presentation on currently available properties within our target search area and budget. Their entire approach was warm, friendly, efficient, and no-pressure. Through the next several months, D.J. Hale found us several promising properties both publicly listed and otherwise. He showed us multiple properties, answered all our questions, and did a great job of using his experience as a broker and his experience from his prior career as an appraiser to assist us in making wise decisions. When the first round of searches and property viewings did not result in a perfect match for us, D.J. Hale went above and beyond expectations in searching for additional properties that might work, ultimately finding for us a perfect property in the perfect location at a price that we could afford—overall a very difficult assignment given the narrow and specific criteria we provided. While the property was under contract, he communicated consistently and quickly with all parties, kept his eye on all deadlines and feasibility period issues, and ultimately guided us through closing on the property without any drama or hiccups. Going into the search for a broker and ultimately a commercial real estate purchase, we knew that our needs, processes, financing, and timetables as a church and a nonprofit organization were going to make any transaction more challenging for the brokers and sellers than they would otherwise be with a traditional commercial or residential property transaction.
